What is Graphic Design?

Graphic design is the organization and presentation of the information, developed through creative process for a particular function. Graphic design is basically an ability to communicate visually by  understanding the fundamentals of color theory, topography, how it all lines upon the grid,following a grid and being able to express their message and idea in the best way visually. 

We can differentiate designing in two parts. First is the virtual designing in computer, phone, tablets screen which we cannot touch, and second is the designing in magazine covers, newspaper etc which we can touch.

In graphic design the step is to first understand information, message or brief and then research, think, imagine and create a solution in order to communicate that information in the visual way. Basically what graphic designers do is they develop a solid idea through a design process then use their skills with layout, colour, typography and creative tools to bring that idea to life. Graphic design has been used to communicate and spread messages around the world.

Graphic design has shaped culture through raw pop art, political art, and commercial art. Today it has a big commercial side, it’s associated heavily with commerce and used to sell and advertise things. The power of graphics design to inform, influence and instruct on a commercial level can also be used to educate and inspire the generation.

  • Advertising
  • Branding
  • Web design 
  • Interface design
  • Magazine layout
  • Motion graphics 
  • Digital art etc. 

Creativity is the most important part of becoming a graphic designer.in addition to that a designer must know how to use various tools and software in designing. However if you are looking to pursue a career in graphic design then first you need to figure out what route to take in becoming graphic designer. So this is kind of the decision of going to university, having some sort of formal education or being self taught.

Educational institutes have ample amount of courses of various time duration which contain foundation courses, certificate courses as well as degree courses of bachelor or master.

For admission in the educational institute of graphic design one has to first complete its 12th exam then appear for the entrance exam of National Institute of design(NID), Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for design (UCEED), Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED)  for admission in the bachelor degree course. For admission to a master degree you must have a bachelor in graphic design and need to appear in the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). Your admission in the various colleges of the country is based on the marks of the entrance exam you scored.
